Newcastle United’s pursuit of Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen appears to be facing significant challenges. According to recent reports, Huijsen’s representatives have outlined three key demands for his next move: substantial wages, regular playing time, and participation in Champions League football. Given these requirements, Newcastle United might struggle to secure his signature, especially with Chelsea and Liverpool also expressing interest in the 20-year-old.

In light of these developments, Newcastle United seems to be shifting its focus towards alternative targets. Marc Guehi, a defender who nearly joined the Magpies from Crystal Palace last year, is reportedly being considered as a potential signing. This change in strategy suggests that Newcastle United may have missed their opportunity to sign Huijsen, particularly since Bournemouth successfully signed him from Juventus last summer for around £15 million and is now poised to at least triple their investment.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has provided an update on Callum Wilson’s future at the club. Despite Wilson’s impending departure due to contract expiration, Howe indicated that the striker is currently part of his plans for the remaining four games of the season. However, Howe’s comments on Wilson’s long-term prospects were less definitive, leaving uncertainty about the player’s future beyond the current season. Wilson’s role might be impacted by the team’s return to European competition and the potential signing of new strikers.

Another player set to leave Newcastle United is Jamal Lewis, whose contract is ending this summer. Lewis’s five-year tenure with the Magpies has been marked by limited impact under both Steve Bruce and Eddie Howe, including loan spells at Watford and Sao Paulo. Lewis himself acknowledged in an interview that his time at Newcastle was coming to an end following discussions with Howe.

In other news, Newcastle United fans have expressed disappointment after Sandro Tonali and Jacob Murphy’s impressive goals were overlooked for the Premier League’s Goal of the Month award. Despite scoring remarkable goals against Brentford and Crystal Palace, respectively, neither player received a nomination, sparking reactions from fans who feel that the snub is unjustified. Tonali’s goal, which he described as an intended cross that luckily went in, might have been less likely to be selected compared to Murphy’s deliberate shot from a tight angle.

As Newcastle United prepares for its upcoming match against Brighton, the club’s transfer strategy and player futures continue to be key topics of discussion. With potential signings and departures shaping the team’s future, the coming weeks are likely to be crucial in determining the Magpies’ squad dynamics.
