Kevin Nagle Promises to Put Things Right After Huddersfield Town’s Woeful Season
Huddersfield Town’s season has ended in disappointment, and owner Kevin Nagle isn’t shying away from the club’s failure to bounce back from relegation. After dropping down to League One, there was quiet hope that the Terriers could regroup and mount a serious promotion challenge. Instead, the season spiralled, and Town finished in a dismal 10th place, miles off the pace and far from where supporters expected them to be.
The campaign wrapped up in the worst possible fashion – a 4-1 home defeat to Leyton Orient that summed up a frustrating, inconsistent season. Manager Michael Duff was shown the door in March, and interim boss Jon Worthington wasn’t able to steady the ship either. There were moments of promise, but too many collapses, too many poor performances, and too few answers.
Nagle, who took ownership of the club in 2023, addressed fans directly through a post on X (formerly Twitter), offering both an apology and a promise. “No words I can say will make you or me feel better about this season,” he admitted. But it wasn’t just an apology — it was a pledge to make things right.
He described the second-half collapse as a “disease” that he intends to root out over the summer. “In all my years of being in team ownership, across all sports, I’ve never had a collapse like this midseason,” he said. For Nagle, the solution starts with leadership, culture, and making tough calls — even if it means upsetting people inside the club.
“And if that rubs some wrong within the building, those are the ones that don’t need to be here next year,” he said bluntly. “If you think I’m passing blame, I’m not. It starts and ends with ME. I have to do better, and I will do better.”
Nagle was also quick to thank the fans and staff, acknowledging their loyalty during what he called a deeply frustrating year. “You all deserve far, FAR better,” he added. “In the coming weeks, you’ll see actions that match these words.”
The message from the top is clear: change is coming. Whether that’s in the form of a new permanent manager, a shake-up in the dressing room, or a wider shift in the club’s direction, supporters can expect an active and possibly dramatic summer. After a year to forget, everyone connected to Huddersfield Town is hoping that next season looks very different.
