After Tottenham’s Premier League loss to Leicester, Ange Postecoglou is still under a lot of pressure.
Richarlison gave Tottenham Hotspur Stadium the lead on Sunday afternoon, but Jamie Vardy and Bilal El Khannouss’ two goals in the final four minutes of the second half completely changed the outcome of the match. The Premier League is now seven games without a win after yet another loss.
Spurs put on a startling performance against a recently promoted team after defeating Hoffenheim in the Europa League earlier this week. Postecoglou’s time in north London may be coming to an end given their most recent negative outcome.
After the game, he told Sky Sports: “Yeah, it hurts. It aches a lot. Once more, the players gave it their all. We’ll be looking at a lot of stuff, but we didn’t have a good day, so I can’t ask for more work from this group.
“The major reason why things didn’t work out for us was not because the players weren’t trying, even though we created some nice possibilities.
As a football team and as a manager, that is all we can hope for. All anyone can hope for is that they are giving it their all. You can evaluate the goals; they were frustrating for us to give up, but I believed we had enough opportunities to win the game.
“They’re doing everything they can in this scenario, but sometimes it doesn’t give you the clarity you need to make decisions. You can ask individuals to do their best, and in my opinion, there are a number of players who are doing their best.
“I’m confident it will turn. We were shorthanded again today, but some very significant players will return in the coming weeks, which I am confident will benefit this team. No ceiling has been reached. This is how things have been for the past two months.
“They had to support their fantastic performance on Thursday to ensure our safety in Europe, but there were likely two or three players who weren’t playing at their best today. As a football manager, it is the norm for me to be evaluated based on my performance.
The authors of football.london have shared their opinions on whether the Australian should be stripped of his responsibilities in the wake of that decision.
