Although Brighton was furious, David Moyes claims that the victory over the Seagulls wasn’t a slap-and-slap victory.
In order to preserve an already strong defense, David Moyes wants his Everton team to have more control over games. Based on the tenacity of the backline, the Blues manager witnessed his team fight to a hard-fought victory against Brighton & Hove Albion.
In the future, he hopes to build the team so that it is less dependent on spectacular rear-guard performances.
Following the 1-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, Moyes stated: “I’m overjoyed. For extended stretches, it was somewhat of a rear-guard action, but they performed it incredibly well. The most crucial thing is to gain points in our position, and the players put up an incredible fight to succeed.
Despite Brighton’s dominance, the home team only managed one shot on goal, and Moyes acknowledged that this victory wasn’t a “smash and grab.”
“I’m hearing that they had one shot on goal, but that doesn’t hurt Brighton,” he remarked. Brighton is a fantastic team that plays excellent football.
We did a great job defending the corners in the main when we were under pressure, and I believe that we should have received a little more recognition for the way we defended balls in the box, around the box, and against the goalkeeper. Again, I want to give the guys a lot of credit for their performance.
I believe it’s the first time we’ve won back-to-back games this season. Brighton has just won three straight games and is nine games undefeated, while we are in a position where we need to get points. Therefore, it is a result for us to come to Brighton today and receive a result.”
In response to a question about how important it was to oversee Everton’s only second away victory of the season, he emphasized that he took over a team that had a strong clean sheet record and had achieved successful away performances as recently as December, when Everton drew at Manchester City and Arsenal under his predecessor Sean Dyche.
He claimed that the bravery that drove the victory on the south coast was not surprising given what he had already witnessed from the team. However, he stated that he wanted to help his backline by giving them more goals and ball control.
Moyes responded, “I don’t think I’ve learned a great deal except that I know I was coming into a group who were hard to beat,” when asked what he had learned about his team on the south coast. With all due respect, I believe they had perhaps the Premier League’s second-best clean sheet record.
“So, today was just one more to add to that, and you know, not giving up goals is a great habit to have. However, we need to improve our performance and score more goals, which is what we aim to achieve in the future.
“I felt that some of our play in the first half was passable. We attempted to exert some degree of control over the game. However, Brighton is currently the team that is playing well.
