According to Italian reporter Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace will resume their negotiations for defender Marc Guehi the following week.

This summer, Eddie Howe has only added a few players, with Lloyd Kelly being one of the few defensive reinforcements thus far after joining on a free transfer from Bournemouth. Lewis Hall, a 19-year-old left defender, also came from Chelsea, a Premier League opponent.

Reportedly, the Magpies’ manager is keen to add a substantial amount of reinforcement to his back line for the 2024–2025 campaign, and there are connections to possible targets. Newcastle did not qualify for any European spots after finishing seventh in the league previous season.

Newcastle Talks for Marc Guehi Continue

Guehi of Palace is arguably the biggest name Newcastle has been associated with this summer. But a deal doesn’t seem to be moving forward, and if a price can’t be worked out quickly, they could back out completely.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims in his Daily Briefing that the Magpies are still interested in signing the England international and have not withdrawn their interest. There have been rumors that negotiations will go on into the next week in an effort to complete an agreement.

“The reports are true; Newcastle and Crystal Palace are still at odds over Marc Guehi. Although there is still no agreement, Newcastle is still keen to sign Guehi. This week’s conversations will focus on determining whether or not they can make it work. Palace has drafted a fresh agreement proposal for Guehi, should he decide to stay.”

Romano did point out that Palace is getting ready in case Guehi decides to stay at Selhurst Park. Although the 24-year-old’s current contract has two years left on it, a new one is being prepared in case negotiations with Newcastle fully fall through.

Born into Chelsea’s youth system, Guehi played two senior games for the London team before completing his move to Palace in 2021. Before that, he played for Swansea City on loan for two seasons in the Championship, but it wasn’t until recently that he made headlines after emerging as one of England’s best players at Euro 2024.

Liverpool Set Asking Price for Newcastle Target

Joe Gomez was absent from the Reds’ squad on Saturday

Joe Gomez of Liverpool is a possible backup plan for Newcastle in the event that their main target isn’t signed. The 27-year-old was linked to the North East club earlier in the summer as a part of a planned deal including Anthony Gordon, but the negotiations fell through early.

Since Gomez was not included in Arne Slot’s starting lineup for Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Ipswich Town on Saturday, his future has once again been under scrutiny. Since then, it has come to light that the defender is thinking about his transfer alternatives before this month’s deadline.

The Merseyside club has reportedly set an asking price of €35–40 million for Gomez this summer, according to CaughtOffside. According to the source, the player may end up in Newcastle, Aston Villa, Fulham, or perhaps Bayern Munich.
