Ange Postecoglou should bench one Tottenham player for the London derby against West Ham, according to Craig Burley, who criticised one player for his subpar performance against Brighton.
Injuries up front for Spurs
At the moment, Wilson Odobert, Richarlison, and Heung-min Son are the three attackers that Tottenham is missing.
That has meant that Postecoglou has persevered with Timo Werner on the left, with the German unable to make the most of his opportunities in the final third.
Although the former Chelsea player has shown promise in his ability to take on defenders and run off the ball, Spurs suffered a costly loss at the Amex Stadium when he was unable to finish or find a teammate in the box.
Burley unleashes on Werner
Burley thinks we’ve seen enough evidence to conclude that Werner lacks the necessary skills to be successful in the Premier League.
The commentator supported the 17-year-old to start against the Hammers and stated that Mikey Moore provides more than the RB Leipzig player who is on loan.
“And again, I don’t want to sort of pick on him, but I am going to,” he said to ESPN UK. I mean, Timo Werner. Timo Werner has struggled to replicate his success in Germany during his two stints in England.
“His final product was terrible once more, which increases the defensive pressure on a team when you are just not winning games.”
“I won’t be shocked if Timo Werner starts the next game following the international break, but it wasn’t just him.
Moore’s youthful 17-year-old will very likely take his position. Brennan Johnson overcame a difficult period when people were speculating about his final output. Six goals in six for him.
Son to be back?
Heung-min Son reportedly put in a lot of effort to be ready for the match against Brighton, and Spurs are optimistic that he will be ready for the London derby (The Standard).
One would thus expect the Tottenham captain to come back into the eleven in place of Werner and his comeback will undoubtedly come as a significant boost to the Lilywhites.
