After the most recent news about Everton’s alleged pursuit of Ernest Nuamah, Jack Harrison will be relieved on Sunday morning. The Toffees tried to bring the Ghanaian winger to Goodison Park from Lyon last summer, but sources say the team is not actively pursuing him (12 January).
According to Santi Aouna (January 11), Nuamah was on the verge of being Merseyside’s first acquisition of David Moyes’ second tenure. The presence of Nuamah would have seriously hampered Harrison’s chances of impressing David Moyes and earning a starting position in the squad.
Everton not in for Nuamah, Harrison ready to impress Moyes
The Friedkin Group clearly saw the Scotsman’s European savvy as a strong point on his resume when they fired Sean Dyche over the week and brought in veteran Toffees manager Moyes in his place.
The club have only appeared in Europe twice since Moyes departed in 2013, but spent time between the Champions League and Europa League (or its equivalent) during four years of his previous reign.
Moyes was blessed with creative talent back then such as Tim Cahill, Steven Pienaar and Leon Osman, but was also able to strike a chord with this calibre of player to get the best out of them.
It may not be Nuamah who Everton next turn to as a creative force, despite the fact the 21-year-old has shown excellent promise early in his career to attract significant Premier League interest.
Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom alike – players who both still have plenty to prove – will be looking forward to the blank canvas from which they can catch the experienced eye of Moyes, who knows how to best utilise a Toffees attack.
