According to Brazilian reports, Philippe Coutinho is most likely to sign a loan deal with Vasco da Gama this summer.
Philippe Coutinho, who has two years remaining on his current Aston Villa contract, is reportedly set to meet with Vasco da Gama to discuss the terms of a return to his boyhood club. According to Brazilian outlet Globo, the termination of Coutinho’s deal is proving difficult. Instead of joining Vasco permanently, Coutinho would leave Villa through a mutual contract termination, but according to Globo, a loan move is currently the most likely scenario, even though Coutinho’s agent is still attempting to work out a permanent departure from Villa.
Vasco and Coutinho’s representation have already begun talking about the playmaker’s potential summer transfer, though he would have to accept a significant salary loss. According to reports, Coutinho would need to accept a pay cut of over 70% in order to join the Brazilian team.
Coutinho signed a season-long loan with Al-Duhail in Qatar back in September. In 21 games, he scored six goals and provided three assists for a total of nine goal contributions.
Coutinho was signed by Villa permanently in January 2022 after initially joining on loan for £17 million, a move prompted by previous manager Steven Gerrard. During the second half of the 2021–2022 season, he joined with Barcelona and made an incredible comeback to the Premier League.
In his first eight games for the team, he was involved in seven goals; however, in his next 37 games across all competitions, he only managed two.
