Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has claimed Callum Wilson ‘definitely won’t’ return from injury before the international break. Wilson missed all of Newcastle’s pre-season matches as well as the opening games of the 2024-25 campaign with a back issue that required a small procedure. Although Howe initially claimed his side would only be without the striker for the opening ‘couple of games’, he is now facing at least two months on the sidelines in total.
Howe told The Gazette, “Callum is continuing his rehabilitation from injury.” “I am pleased with his development. As usual, he is putting in a lot of effort at work.
“He brings a different dynamic, and we miss him.” We want to get him back soon since he is such a vital member of the team, but it is unlikely that he will return in time for the international break.
Newcastle’s Carabao Cup matches begin on Wednesday at 8 p.m. against Nottingham Forest and Sunday at 1:30 p.m. against Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park. Wilson will be absent from both games, although he could play again on September 15, when the team travels to Wolverhampton Wanderers after the international break.
Wilson traveled to Germany with the team for his first preseason training session back at Newcastle in July, but he had to withdraw from training because of a back issue. Since then, the 32-year-old has been seen on camera skipping and focusing on his recovery on his own.
Now that he is in the last year of his contract at St. James’ Park, he has also been linked to leaving the team during this transfer window, although no official offers have been made for the player as of yet.
