To attract out-of-contract star Chad Warner, West Coast co-captain Liam Duggan would gladly give up his spot in the Eagles’ midfield.
As Warner approaches the last year of his contract at Sydney, both Fremantle and West Coast are vying for his services. Warner is originally from Western Australia.
Even if it meant switching roles, Duggan stated he would seize the chance to lead Warner.
“Yes,” Duggan replied, “I would really love to play with Chad Warner.”
We need to resolve it as well. I believe that anyone would prefer to have Chad Warner standing next to them.
“If he came, I might have to find a new home somewhere on the field because I would probably be kicked out of the midfield, but it would be pretty nice.”
Warner, 23, just bought a home in his home state of Washington, adding fuel to the fire of a possible homecoming.
Warner would still need to ask for a trade if he wanted to leave the Swans even though his contract was expired.
With a first-round pick of its own and one connected to Hawthorn, West Coast has a far better draft hand.
Expected to compete for the premiership, Fremantle is in further negotiations with Melbourne star Kysaiah Pickett and only has its own first-round choice.
Callum Mills, the captain of Sydney, expressed optimism that the Swans may reach an agreement to retain the star ball winner.
“We hope he stays.” That’s what matters most. Hopefully, we can accomplish something because he is a good man, loves the club, and we love him.
Alex Pearce, the captain of Fremantle, remained silent when asked if Pickett would help the Dockers’ pursuit of the title.
“Of course,” Pearce answered with a smile, when asked if he would like to play with Pickett.
